From my research so far, it appears that if you have a group health care coverage, it tends to be cheaper than if you have to buy the insurance yourself. For example, a family of 4 may pay as much as 0 a month or more for some decent coverage, but perhaps group coverage from your employer may cost you 0 or so. But if your employer does not offer it, are there any associations that offer health insurance to their members? Associations that anyone can join?

I had my health insurance lapse 4 years ago and have been without since. Right after my lapse I had to out of pocket a hernia surgery and I don’t want to go thru that again. MY QUESTION is: If I went out and picked up an individual plan tomorrow, how long does it take for them to cover me if I am injured and need medical treatment? Be it a visit to a doctors office, a prescription, an x-ray, or a surgery. I’m not a drinker or smoker, nor do I have any current conditions.

- We’re not cancelling their contracts, we’re just eliminating their health insurance since BCBS informed us we needed to extend it to ALL 1099s & the overhead costs would go off the roof.
- So they’ll still be working for us. We’re trying to find some individual insurance alternatives, but the question we want resolved to comply with the law is if COBRA needs to be offered at all.

My employer does not provide health insurance. After extensive research, my wife and I found a suitable policy for ourselves that provided sufficient insurance coverage without breaking the bank. The major downside I see is that we are paying for the coverage with post tax money – yes our premium goes toward our itemized deductions, but that is no where near comparable to paying with pre-tax money. Am I wrong about this? Is there a better way to approach this?
It just doesn’t seem right that I am punished merely because my employer is a small business, not able to participate in a group insurance plan.

My husband is of an age to retire, but doesn’t plan to do so in the next five or so years. We know that he should be eligible for medicare. Is it possible to have both medicare and his health insurance at work where the expense of his medical bills would be less or non existent?
